Environmental
Dioxin Levels Declining
Dioxins are unwanted
byproducts of combustion, industrial manufacturing, municipal processes,
and natural sources. The amount of environmental dioxin observed
peaked in the 1970s and has since been declining due to technological
advances and regulatory action. For example, three studies indicate
that environmental dioxin levels have decreased dramatically, even
as PVC production has tripled (see chart) and every measure of global
industrial output has soared. Dioxin levels are expected to continue
declining.
