ICEM/CCC Agreements Summary

  • Establish a steering committee composed of union and management leaders to meet regularly and oversee progress;

  • Undertake a long-term study of the sustainability of chlorine chemistry, focusing on fundamental products and questions regarding environment, health and safety impacts of chlorine use. To seek funding for this project from international and national organizations (World Bank, European Commission, departments of government and private sources). That the study would be carried out by an independent research organization charged with delivering an unbiased report to include input from all stakeholders, including the environmental community;

  • Consider joint research projects in the environmental, health and safety area;

  • Consider activity within international organizations including the United Nations (UN) and the International Labor Office (ILO);

  • ICEM will gather information on the workings of the chemical industry's Responsible Care(r) program in numerous countries, identifying differences in the program's acceptance, application and progress; and

  • Establish a joint worker training program in an area where need for better worker education is great
