Hormone Research Underway

Scientists will investigate chemical effects

As noted in May’s ARCC News, a book entitled Our Stolen Future contends that trace amounts of chemical residues in the environment are mimicking human hormones and causing sterility, cancer, learning disorders, behavioral problems and many other ills. The book’s authors state that they cannot prove their allegations, and call for further research.

Despite their disclaimer, unproven contentions are being sold as fact by those dedicated to shutting down major industries which employ millions of people and provide essential

products. The Society of Environmental Journalists reviewed the book and noted, "Portrayed trends are sketched from a remarkably small number of data points."

ARCC believes that most Americans would prefer to keep industry and jobs alive while environmental safeguards are improved on the basis of sound scientific research.

Government, industry and academe are now funding or carrying out independent hormone research. Research will focus primarily on certain powerful pesticides and by-products of some types of industrial processes.
